Scotty Peek is a painter living in Columbia SC. His landscape paintings usually begin from life or photo, but often abandon the reference to freely explore abstraction and non-representation. This begins a back-and-forth, possibly working from the reference again, building, destroying, deciding what's important, what's not, until the painting, while grounded in reality, offers something beyond a direct representation.
Scotty received his Masters in Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina in 2000 and his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Austin Peay State University (TN) in 1995. Scotty and his handbag-making wife, Sally (Nana by Sally), create in adjoining home studios, where they also share two daughters and two dogs.
